The 15th China International Steel Conference, a flagship event of the 2026 China International Steel Week, was held in Shanghai on September 20. Under the theme "Integration, Innovation, and Quality Upgrading," the conference brought together more than 1,200 delegates from over 280 enterprises worldwide, including steel producers, downstream partners, and international industry associations.
Jiang Wei, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CISA, noted that the event set new records for both overall attendance and overseas participation, reflecting its growing international influence. Speakers highlighted the transformation of the global steel industry amid geopolitical shifts, demographic changes, technological advances, and climate imperatives. World Steel Association Director General Edwin Basson projected that global crude steel output could reach 2.2–2.4 billion tonnes by 2050, with India and Southeast Asia as the main growth engines.
CISA Chairman Liu Jian called for open cooperation, opposition to trade protectionism, deeper collaboration on low-carbon governance, and joint efforts to build secure industrial supply chains. The conference also featured three roundtable forums on global steel market trends, quality improvement through collaboration, and green and smart steel technologies.
