World crude steel production for the 70 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) reached 149.2 million tonnes (Mt) in July 2026, a 0.3% decrease compared with July 2025, according to the latest data released on August 24, 2026.
By region, Asia and Oceania remained the largest producing region with 109.4 Mt, though down 1.2% year on year. North America output rose 4.9% to 9.6 Mt, the EU (27) increased 3.8% to 10.5 Mt, and other Europe grew 5.8% to 3.7 Mt. Africa climbed 6.1% to 2.0 Mt, while the Middle East declined 13.4% to 3.8 Mt.
Among the top 10 steel-producing countries, China produced 76.9 Mt in July, down 3.6% year on year. India produced 14.4 Mt, up 1.9%; the United States 7.4 Mt, up 4.4%; and Japan 6.9 Mt, up 0.4%. Viet Nam saw the fastest growth among the top 10, with output surging 34.7% to 2.7 Mt.
In the first seven months of 2026, global crude steel production totalled 1,081.2 Mt, 0.6% lower than the same period in 2025.
